Renegade Ops Review -- This Game's Gone R

Players control a variety of vehicles and unleash a variety of weapons in this uninspired shooter."The story is so bare bones it's hardly worth mentioning. An unknown superpower named Inferno has suddenly sprung up with aspirations of world domination, so it's up to a rag-tag crew of renegades to put a stop to it. The script doesn't take itself seriously, but it's rarely tongue-in-cheek enough to be entertaining either."Head over to read the rest of our Renegade Ops review.

Sword 2 Revelations - A Whole New World

,福州担保

By Remko Molenaar (Proxzor), OnRPG Journalist Some if you might have heard of this game before. This game was formerly known as Granado Espada: Sword of the New World. Sword 2: Granado Espada was developed by imcGAMES. Sword 2 has won the Best Graphics award and also Presidential Award for Game of the Year. GamersFirst brings this amazing game to the West with many game enhancements. Set on a mysterious,福州担保公司, dangerous continent with a story inspired by Europe’s exploration and conquest of America,福州担保公司, Sword 2 is destined to dominate the world of MMORPGs by virtue of its groundbreaking design features,福州贷款, fast-paced gameplay and amazing graphics.Recently Granado Espada: Sword of the New World changed its name to Sword 2: Revelations and provided quite a few much needed features such as a more in-depth crafting system , the Viron Island Area, a new unique playable character, and the ability to have a pet. Sword 2 has a unique feature that lets you multi-character control up to 3 characters at a time. When you start creating your ‘family’ you are allowed to make different characters consisting of the following classes: Fighter, Scout, Wizard, Musketeer and Elementalist. With so many possible combinations it was rare that I felt like a copy of someone else’s family. As you go about your journey, you can unlock new playable characters to increase the diversity of your family. These characters are specialized in different statistics and skills, in order to unlock these characters you have to find them in the game and do the available quests to get the NPC into your team. All characters are assumed to be from the same family and share the same surname. This surname is used to identify a player in the game. Every character I tested brought a unique and enjoyable skill set that made for some very strategic party setups. Though when having fun swapping in multiple characters, remember that each character levels independently so you might have to do some basic grinding to level up a character if you want to utilize them in end game content. When you have created your desired team and have advanced a few levels you notice the skills you have gotten are all on different keys on your keyboard. No matter which one of your 3 characters you have selected to lead, you can all use their skills when you want to. This makes battles feel akin to playing the piano and put my worries to rest that I would have to play 3 MMO characters at once.If you don’t feel like doing normal quests in Sword 2: Revelations you can also visit various dungeons. These dungeons are generally composed of three to five floors with increasingly more difficult challenges to block your progression. In these dungeons there are boxes and barrels that act as monster spawn portals. These items make going AFK nearly impossible as they trigger wave after wave of monsters until destroyed. To keep you guessing, these monster generators are placed randomly on the map each time you enter, so you will be forced to explore a bit to find the source of your foes. In these dungeons there are waypoints or (player chosen) save locations. I found these very convenient since you can warp to a set part of the map with a ward scroll rather than fighting through the entire dungeon in one go. Five locations may be saved initially. And up to five more locations can be purchased from the Bazaar. It is possible to command your characters to do various things. You can choose to do this in a team or separate with the selected character. It is possible to choose from the following commands:Team Summon (F4): The team members are called to the team leader.Assault Mode (CTRL+Click): Attack all the enemies on the route to the point you have clicked. Harvest mode (CTRL+SHIFT+Click): Pick up items while moving to the designated point.Hold Mode (CTRL+H): Characters stop moving and attack approaching monsters.Defend Mode (CTRL+E and space): Automatically engage enemies in battle. When you have accepted a quest it is possible to look at the location in the Quest info tab (ALT+A). There you can see the location of the target you are looking for. In this quest menu map as well as the standard zone map, you are able to move to a target location simply by clicking it. The zone map is very detailed, informing you of available quests, npc locations, and what shops you have access to. In Sword 2 you can also test yourself against other players for one of the greatest challenges in the new world. The limited PvP action I had was enjoyable and all the industry standard types were available. These are the different forms of PvP included: Family vs Family dueling, Clan Wars, Faction vs Faction, Arena Play and GM Tournaments. For a game that is released in 2006, Sword 2 has wonderful graphics. The game is really detailed and the textures are really nice to look at. The game is also well programmed resulting in lower system requirements than one would expect for such a gorgeous game. You should at least have a Pentium 3 processor with 512 MB RAM and a Directx 9.0c supporting Graphics Card. Anyone without these specs probably has an ancient computer, likely made of wood and powered by a hamster. For the rest of us, we can enjoy this beautiful game to our heart’s content! Many items can be crafted in Sword 2, from refined materials to gems to equipment. Equipment can be upgraded through various means. This upgrading system is the standard MMO process involving increasing the number of slots and imbuing gems to given bonus statistics. Once you progress to above level 30 you can begin dabbling in gear enchantments as well. This gives you the option to customize and enhance your gear further without wasting precious slots. With the Revelations expansion, Alchemy, Cooking and Wing Crafting were added into the game to give craftsman even more toys to play with.GamersFirst calls their cash shop the Bazaar. The items for sale include the expected experience and drop chance bonuses. Also available are passes that allow you to access more challenging regions of the world faster than non-paying players are able to. I didn’t find too many items though that would give players a flat strength bonus over their enemies, which is always a good sign.Sword 2: Revelations is a fun game that thrives on its unique 3 character class system. It truly makes this game much more challenging than most MMOs and adds an unbelievable amount of fun factor to the genre. Combined with its beautiful graphics I really had few negatives to say about this game. If I have to quip about something it is various new regions haven’t been translated yet and quests will still be in Korean. I hope GamersFirst pushes to get this fixed as soon as possible because it seems like an easily patchable error in an otherwise flawless game.

US and Japanese PSone classics coming to

Sony has announced plans to start releasing US and Japanese PSone emulations in Europe via the PlayStation Store. While the firm hasn't confirmed any specific titles or release dates yet, Ross McGrath of the PlayStation Store team said a few are "already in process".Here's a handy guide explaining what it all means for you guys:Publishers who own the rights to release PSone titles that were previously only available in the US and/or Japan will now be able to apply to have them released on the SCEE PlayStation Stores (providing they are rated by the appropriate ratings boards for each territory). All titles will be published 'as is', with either English or Japanese language game content where available. All titles will run at 60 Hz and you will need a 60 Hz capable display to play them properly. This also means that if a PAL version of a title has been unable to pass QA in SCEE, but the NTSC version is already available on the PlayStation Store in SCEA or SCEJ, we can look at publishing that version instead. We cannot simply take the US version and publish it immediately, as it has to be reprocessed for SCEE, but at least we know the title should already be relatively bug-free.Sony added: "With this news in mind, we'd love to hear from you what titles you'd like to see available in Europe for the first time - make yourself heard in the comments and with the most requested titles we will speak to publishers on your behalf."

Battlefield 3 Beta Glitch In Real Life --

The beta, on all platforms, has been plagued with some weird glitches, some are even game breaking. It goes without saying (but here I go anyway) the BF3 beta is not a reflection of the finished product. The retail copy of the game will hopefully do away with these bugs, but in the mean time, we will exploit them and make fun of them mercilessly. One of the funniest glitches in BF3 is the "Nessie." Yes, I'm the only one who calls it that. The glitch has already been parodied with a "in real life" video.Keep reading to see the original video of the "Nessie" glitch. Here's the glitch of a gamer watching an enemy grow a long neck, flop along the map and shoot with his magical glitched gun. The video is rated H for "Hilarious."Tips? Suggestions? Early Access Dream Drops

By Darren Henderson (DizzyPW), OnRPG Editor-In-ChiefYesterday marked the first day of Gamania's Taiwan Game Show and the beginning of their spectacular line up was Dream Drops. For those familiar with Lucent Heart, you will find yourself right at home as Dream Drops is developed by the same team and takes Gamania's usual style and pushes it to the next generation. In Dream Drops you take on the role of a 'sleepwalker' aka a human who is temporarily transported into the world of dreams to help bring some clarity to the chaos befalling the world of After Dream. Apparently Time Thieves have stolen the Time from children's classic fairy tales, resulting in bizarre alterations to Fairy Tales. Most notably, the Queen of Hearts has gone from savage and maniacal to focused and goal driven, leading the Elder Board in a hunt to catch the Time Thieves. Meanwhile Snow White has gone Barbie and is attempting to seize control of all of After Dream the only way a Barbie Girl knows how, creating a seductive clothing line called Silver Waltz!Although the Queen of Hearts has summoned you to the world of After Dreams, don't let your guard down. She is still vicious and ready to turn on you as soon as you no longer serve her purposes. The story line and cast of characters in Dream Drops is twisted, full of appearances like Hook, betrayal, and mystery. In terms of gameplay, Dream Drops takes the classic 4 class model and reimagines it with the tank becoming a Nutcracker, the mage becoming a Dream Painter, the cleric becoming a Pasty Chef, and the summoner as an Indian Warrior. While they serve these rolls in a familiar way, their skills are nothing but imaginative. For instance the Pasty Chef (pictured below as Pedo Bear) attacks enemies with giant ice cream cones, heals allies with candy, and spills milk on people for the pure joy of being Pedo Bear. As a side note, it seems each class will have a different starting area, so expect some replayability should you choose to sample the 4 classes.Guild Cities also play a very important role in Dream Drops. Guilds will be able to collect materials and rare blueprints in order to construct buildings in their town, offering useful buffs and rare crafting locations. The town construction itself is quite detailed, to the point that you can literally spell out words from an aerial view of your city with trees, fountains, crafting houses, and other buildings. As your guild grows, so too does the amount of land available for you to build upon.Of course it would be sad if this joy was limited to only the Guild Leader (as it is in most games), but the 5 tiered guild member ranking system in Dream Drops can be used to give limited access to the town builder to your closest guildies. This way you can come together and work in unison to build the perfect Guild Town for your group of friends. Now one of the major problems in the past with Guild Towns is that smaller guilds often lack the number of members to effectively run quests, gather materials, and build a prosperous guild town. Dream Drops partially alleviates this problem by allowing Guild Leaders to post player generated quests on a billboard in their Guild Town. Non-guildies can accept these quests, and work to fetch materials for the guild like little mercenaries. This does come at the cost of Guild Leaders having to fit the bill on the quest reward but it's a step in the right direction when players can generate their own quests for any purpose. In true Lucent Heart fashion, Dream Drops offers plenty of ways to customize your character without limiting your viability. Gem stones can be placed in a cross pattern on the character screen (with the horizontal bar focusing on physical and the vertical focusing on magical) to bolster your character's stats beyond their base level stats. This is entirely different from the fashion sets that can be obtained from the cash shop as well as various quests, offering you incredibly detailed character customization without having any impact on your character stats. Level requirements are also placed on the fashion, reserving the best looking items for players dedicated enough to reach endgame. Approximately 9 slots for fashion exist as well, so it shouldn't be too difficult if you try to reserve a unique look for yourself. As you level up, you gain access to new class promotions (2nd tier classes not yet announced!) as well as new skills to master, most consisting of 10 levels of upgrading. In fact so many diverse skills are available to you that it will take a good amount of time to eventually master all of the skills, and players will be forced to specialize themselves while leveling to maximize their power. This comes with a nice aesthetic bonus however as skills actually change in animation the closer they are to maximum level. This can range from some added sparkly particles to the Nutcracker charging on a glorious steed instead of wooden rocking horse. To keep things interesting, various events and minigames occur daily and change daily in Dream Drops. Players will be given a handy in-game calendar to keep track of these events and can even edit it to ignore certain events or send reminders to themselves and guildies for important calendar events. Speaking of convenient features, you can actually access both your mailbox and auction house from anywhere in the world! These even includes accepting mail attachments while out grinding mobs. The true Time Thieves are MMO companies that have forced players to return to town for these mundane tasks and Dream Drops is out to rectify this injustice.Though the game isn't even slated for release yet, the developers promise that the feud between Snow White and The Queen of Hearts is only the beginning. Expect an infusion of Asian fairy tales to join the roster of American and European stories in a post launch expansion!

Activision sued by Maroon 5

Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine is suing Activision over the use of his likeness in Band Hero. According to Levine, although he had agreed to appear in the game, he believed it was to sing along to Maroon 5s She Will Be Loved. However, in the game Levine's character can also be used to sing tunes that "would not have been chosen by him for recordings or performances".As well as singing other songs, the game also allows players to change Levine's voice altogether by switching his vocals out for a femalefs.Seeking unspecified damages, Levine is suing for fraudulent inducement, breach of contract, violation of the common-law right of publicity and unfair business acts or practices. In April last year, No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani filed a similar suit against Activision. Project Blackout - Tactically Twitchy

 。

 。

By Michael Sagoe (mikedot), OnRPG Journalist。

 。

 。

SG Interactive is taking a departure from their usual bright and colorful online games to bring us a gritty and violent look at modern warfare with Project Blackout (PB). Released back in 2010, Project Blackout is a multiplayer online first-person shooter, which contains a mix between tactical and fast pacing. PB looks and plays very similar to many FPS games before it, but is it hiding something to make it worth the download?。

PB also features the option to change your character’s look with avatar items, but these items are restricted to head items such as face paint, masks and hats, and avatar sets that completely change the look of your player model altogether, and just like the weapons available, none of these can be tweaked.  For such a modern game, it’s pretty disappointing that you’re only given access to bare bones customization options, and to make things worse, most of the customization is locked away from non-paying players, only being obtainable using points (real currency). The only other bit of customization available to all players would be the mission system and ACT ranks (Advanced Combat Training) that lets you tweak your character in various ways to fit your playing style.。

 。

 。

 。

 。

 。

 。

The community of players for Project Blackout seems to be pretty large and active. Lobbies for both the newbie and open channels are usually full during peak hours and there’s enough variety in interest for game types that you won’t have much of a problem find a room for a game type that you’re willing to play. Working with random public players is about as average as online gaming communities can get: Most players keep to themselves and seldom communicate with each other, but you will occasionally get some nice, supportive players here and there, as well as the occasionally trash talker/sore loser/troll.。

That’s right. You know how most multiplayer FPS games have the option for you to pick up someone else’s gun if you’re out of ammo? Well you can’t do it here, unless you pay for it. The game literally takes features that are common with FPS titles and then sell them back to you… That right there made me pull out the WTF card.。

 。

 。

Battling out in PB also feels average at best: Run, shoot, stab, crouch and throw a grenade or two while cooperating with your teammates. No matter how much better or worse your weapon is compared to your enemy’s, one or two well-placed shots to the head can pretty much do you in, and with all the different weapons available, PB has a strange balance between luck and skill.。

 。

Controls for PB are typical of your standard first-person shooter. There isn’t even a tutorial at the start of the game, but if you’ve played just about any first person shooter title before this one, you’ll know exactly what to do: Use WSAD keys to move, mouse to aim and shoot, R key to reload, number keys to switch weapons, etc. The only slightly unique feature in PB’s control scheme is being able to trigger weapon functions using your MOUSE2 button, which lets you use various features of your weapon such as looking down the iron sights of your rifle, steadying your grip for increased accuracy while gimping your mobility, speeding up your ability to switch between two magazine cases, etc. All firearms seem somewhat accurate to their real life counterparts.。

In terms of cash shop balance, it’s WAY off. There are so many different boosters you can purchase to give yourself hefty advantage over non-paying players, such as quick reloading, extra grenades, faster/slower respawning and even (get this…) weapon pick up.。

The visuals of PB are simply not up to snuff in comparison to other modern shooters out there. They may look nice from a distance, but taking a closer look will reveal dank and blurry textures all over the place. Shadow effects, light reflections and all other effects simply look plain and dated. The only decent part with PB’s visuals comes from the wacky action ragdoll that makes dead bodies flail like crazy. As an added touch, every time you get killed in battle, there’s a deathcam attached to the head of your character, so you can watch every moment of your flailing dead body in glorious first person view, which adds a bit of shits-and-giggles value.。

 。

 。

 。

The core gameplay found in PB contains almost nothing out of the ordinary: Game modes available contain your standard matches including Team Deathmatch, Bomb Run, Elimination, etc. Nothing special or amazing regarding these modes since you can find them in just about every other multiplayer FPS game out there, but you can also play these modes with special conditions such as Sniper Rifle or Shotguns only. This adds a nice change of pace, but gets old quickly. There is one mode that I did manage to have a blast with, and that would be their recently added Dino Escape mode, where dinosaurs (controlled by live players) have to stop human players from escaping a Jurassic Park-Esque landscape, complete with a big ‘ol T-Rex.。

Overall, Project Blackout is a functional online multiplayer FPS title base on modern warfare and that’s about it. There’s nothing much here that sets it apart from the competition and has some wonky balance issues on the side. Give it a go if you need a quick fix, but there are far better alternatives out there.。

 。

 。

When starting out, you’re not granted any customization options. You simply type in your desired player name and go. Once you check into the game’s item shop, you’ll find a hefty amount of different weapons, avatar models and other misc. items to choose from. The weapon selection is incredibly vast, but you can’t tweak or modify your weapons in any way, so if you were thinking about adding a nice little silencer or modified scope to that shiny new assault rifle you just bought, you can sort of forget that… unless, of course, the weapon you just purchased already has the features you were looking for.。

Asura's Wrath screenshots go berserk

We've got new screenshots for Capcom's latest nuts action game, Asura's Wrath, headed for Xbox 360 and PS3. The title is developed by CyberConnect2, the studio behind almost all of the .hack// and Naruto games, so it knows a thing or two about creating over-the-top games. And by the looks of two recently-released trailers we're pretty sure Asura's Wrath will be the most mental of its work so far.The new screens below show all sorts of madness involving a character named Yasha playing with lasers, futuristic bikes in tunnels and fools getting killed. Star Wars The Old Republic An Introductio

By Remko Molenaar (Proxzor),福州担保公司, OnRPG JournalistStarting today I will be writing a series of articles building up to the release of Star Wars the MMO. In this article I will be introducing this wonderful title that is coming in the end of 2011 and the confirmed release date is December 20 for the Americans and December 22 for the Europeans,福州担保! Currently the closed beta is live and only a small amount of players are invited. There are several testing phases though so if you haven’t been invited yet,福州担保公司, keep trying. Luckily my friend scored invites and was willing to share with me so expect some insider coverage in my next article! Star Wars is most likely the biggest fantasy/science fiction film series of all time. Made by George Lucas, the first trilogy started in the 70’s and 80’s,福州贷款, the second one was made in 1999 and the last movie released was in 2005. There was an MMO made during the reign of the follow-up trilogy that has since fallen out of style, leaving a hole in the hearts of Star Wars fans and MMO gamers everywhere. Star Wars The Old Republic, being developed by the legendary devs at Bioware, will return the Star Wars universe to the MMO genre with a whole new storyline. The setting is 300 years after the events of Bioware’s Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic series. For anyone not familiar with these top titles, this series truly set the bar for every RPG game to come. The KOTOR series consists of the same classic Sith vs Jedi wars that made Star Wars famous in the 70s. The KOTOR series however takes place 3,500 years before the Star Wars films and the story is much more political and deep than the movies themselves. If you haven’t played these games yet I believe they are both available at a discount on Steam. If you care at all about story telling you will want to catch up on the tale before jumping into the upcoming MMO.Now back to Star Wars The Old Republic. The Jedi are held responsible for the success of the Sith during the devastating 28-year-long Great Galactic War and the Jedi have relocated themselves on the planet Tython. This is the place where the Jedi Order had initially been founded, to seek guidance from the Force. The Sith control Korriban, where they have re-established a Sith Academy. You enter this universe as a fresh recruit for one of these two warring factions. Now for the people that aren’t been familiar with the “Force” : The Force is an all binding power between organisms and energy. Some people in the known Star Wars universe are force sensitive; this means they are able to utilize the Force as an extension of their own will. With this power many things can be done and people are able to achieve different skills and abilities. The Force is balanced between Good and Evil. The Jedi are the peacemakers in Star Wars The Old Republic and the Sith prefer to use it more to their evil likings. The Jedi respect the universum and serve any living organism with any problem that might occur. The Sith however use the Dark side of the Force to manipulate powerful leaders and craft the Universe to their choosing. They get their power from hate, egoism and passion.Star Wars The Old Republic is going to be a MMORPG similar in the style of other currently Pay to Play released MMORPGs such as World of Warcraft. This is Bioware’s first MMORPG, and they are trying to make SW:TOR different from most MMORPGs while not straying too far into the unknown regions of development.Because Star Wars is a really known franchise in the world right now people have high hopes for the game to become a top seller. Bioware realizes this and knows that if they can provide the basics of a solid MMO with high production values, the brand will sell itself. As such the combat is standard MMO goodness but the storyline is intricate, giving players a wide variety of choices in progressing their own personal storyline. This is nearly unheard of in the MMO genre because of the difficulties in producing custom crafted storylines for literally hundreds of thousands of players without breaking game immersion. There are a lot of choices you can make between the Light side and the Dark side and your character will evolve to a different personage every time you make a choice. In essence they have crafted a MMO theme park like so many others, but one in which you can choose to take the soft core left track or go for the full on 360 degree loop on the right track!Another big feature Bioware is using to differentiate itself is Space Combat. Every character in Star Wars The Old Republic will obtain its own space ship; this ship can be used for Space Combat or travelling to other planets. The ship will also serve as your ‘home’ where many tools and resources can be stored. Every character that will help you and join you in your journey will take residence in your own Space Ship so you can easily find them if you require their help. There isn’t a lot of information released about the Space Combat, yet there are several videos you can find on YouTube regarding the Space Combat should you seek them out. There is no information however of what purpose the Space Combat will have so this is still one big mystery for everyone and I personally cannot wait to fly with my own ship in space and shoot some evil scum. There are many playable races and classes. Only a few of them are known so far, but I expect there might be even more added to this list in the future.ChissHumanMiralukaMirialenRattatakiSith PurebloodTwi’lekZabrakEveryone known in the Star Wars universe might remember a few of these and most of them are found in the KOTOR series or even the Star Wars movies.Republic Trooper Smuggler Jedi Knight Jedi Consular Bounty Hunter Imperial Agent Sith Warrior Sith InquisitorI’ll go into greater detail on the specializations of each class after I get a bit more time in beta to see their strengths and weaknesses.Bioware has given the following system specifications for Star Wars The Old Republic:Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4000 or better / Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 2.0 Ghz or betterMemory: At least 1.5GBRAM for XP / 2 GB or better for Windows Vista/7Graphics: ATI XT1800 or better /NVIDIA7800 or better / Intel 4100 or better. 256 MB minimum video RAM, shader 3.0 or better fully compatible graphics card.OS: Windows XP / Vista / Windows 7DVD-ROM: 8x or betterThe requirements are really not demanding that much of your machine and everyone with a computer that has been purchased in the last 5 years should easily be set to play this game.As stated above Star Wars The Old Republic will hit the shelves in December which is only 2 months away. Personally I was absolutely thrilled when my friend said he’d lend me his beta account and I definitely intend to buy the Collectors’ Edition of the game. Bioware has released details regarding the Collectors’ Edition and I must say this is most likely the priciest Collectors’ Edition I’ve ever seen, coming in at $150. I feel Star Wars The Old Republic will be bringing back the glory days of Star Wars Galaxies which is the previous MMO that was involved in the Star Wars Universe. With that game gone, this is the only way I can get my Star Wars MMO fix! I will continue making articles about my experience in the Star Wars beta so be sure to follow us on twitter and facebook to keep update on when my next article arrives!

Sony PS Vita to miss 2011 release in US

You heard it here first: Sony has confirmed a 2011 release date for PlayStation Vita in Japan, but the handheld won't hit Europe or the US until next year. Sony executive vice president Kaz Hirai announced the news today in Japan, according to the Associated Press. It's disappointing news for those outside of Japan, but we've heard US and European gamers won't have to wait too long for the portable's arrival. Sony had promised a "phased global rollout" starting later this year, and our sources indicate Vita will hit western markets in January or February. When it does launch in the UK, Vita will set you back £229 for the Wi-Fi model and £279 for the 3G version. If you can't wait until next year to get your hands on the device, Vita will be publicly available during the Tokyo Games Show this September. Activision expects six Blizzard releases

We all know Blizzard likes to take its sweet time with its games, making sure it crafts them to perfection before letting gamers even have a sniff, but it looks like it'll have to get a move on for a few years. Speaking at the Citi 2011 Technology Conference today, Activision Blizzard COO Thomas Tippl said Activision expects Blizzard to launch six major releases in the next three years. These releases include two expansions for World of Warcraft and two for Starcraft II. MMO and RTS fans can be excited, then. The other two releases pertain to Diablo III; first the actual bloody game, which fans have been waiting for since Werther's Originals were invented, and could be out this year with any luck. And the second a Diablo III expansion, which Tippl apparently expects out before the end of 2014 (but hopefully some time before the next ice age). Best get to work then, lads. Mike Jackson

DC Universe 'Fight for the Light' Green L

Sony Online Entertainment has confirmed that DC Universe Online players will get the 'Fight for the Light' on September 6 - and it's free. At least, it will be "to all active DC Universe Online subscribers in the U.S." says SOE. Where that leaves EU customers is unclear. The pack was originally announced in July to cost $9.99 (or about seven quid), but SOE says it's lobbing the DLC, which stars Green Lantern, to active subscribers for free "as a way to thank its loyal players"."Introducing DC Comics legend The Green Lantern and the game's seventh power set (Light), the "Fight for the Light" pack allows players to join the Green Lantern Corps or Sinestro Corps as reservist members while helping to restore balance to the universe," explains SOE."Along with interactions with Green Lantern based favorites and foes, players will be launched into multiple action-packed scenarios, including an epic battle for control in S.T.A.R. Labs, a light-to-light showdown with the Red Lantern Corps in Coast City, and chaotic prison break at Sciencells Prison."A more detailed breakdown of the new gameplay scenarios added is through here. Portal dev's new game is Quantum Conundru

As promised, Portal co-creator Kim Swift - who now acts as creative director at Airtight Games - has revealed her new game and it looks awesome. It's a first-person puzzle adventure titled Quantum Conundrum.Playing as 'a kid', you explore the huge and bizarre house of your uncle - a wacky inventor named professor Fitz Quadwrangle - which looks more like a laboratory for his creations. An explosion in the house sends your uncle insane and your mission is to locate him and figure out what's going on.But getting through his intricate house is a huge puzzle, for which you'll need the IDS device - Inter-dimensional Shift device - on your arm. This lets you switch between dimensions with different physical properties. For example, you can switch to the 'Fluffy Dimension' in which everything turns plush, so heavy things are light which allows you to move objects that are otherwise too heavy. There's also a slow-mo dimension in which moving objects (except you) move 20 times slower. As you progress from one puzzle room to another you'll be able to switch between different dimensions to solve the puzzles, and sometimes combine different dimensions with truly clever results to reach the exit. Swift explains it all in the video below:So you use an arm-attached device to defy physics and reach the exit of a series of puzzle-filled laboratory rooms. Sound familiar? Regardless of its Portal similarities, Quantum Conundrum looks and sounds amazing and we can't wait to see more of it. Luckily there's not long to wait - it's out in 'early 2012' on Steam, Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network for PS3. Mike Jackson

Kinect's Gunstringer to come bundled with

Twisted Pixel's Kinect title The Gunstringer - freshly-crowned as a retail release - will release in the UK on September 16. Microsoft's confirmed the game will retail for £29.99 and come bundled with a full download code for upcoming XBLA slash-em-up, Fruit Ninja Kinect. In case you missed it, Gunstringer - developed by the ladies and gents behind Ms. Splosion Man - is a Kinect-controlled 2D/3D hybrid shooter staring a resurrected string puppet cowboy seeking revenge against his killers. The title was repositioned as a full retail release after being initially unveiled as an Xbox Live Arcade game. As a special bonus to celebrate Gunstringer's release, Microsoft says players will be able to download a free DLC add-on pack at launch called "The Wavy Tube Man Chronicles" which pits players against the time-travelling son of Wavy Tube Man, the first boss players battle in the game. "In this add-on, Wavy Tube Man Jr. steals a time machine to prevent his father's death at the hands of The Gunstringer, and it's up to players to battle classic western cowboys and futuristic warriors to save the world from destruction," Microsoft says.

Xbox Live Chief We Don't Want to Appear

In the throes of the 23-day PlayStation Network Outage, when people were vowing they'd sell their PS3s and go join Xbox Live, Microsoft's most provocative comment was a low-key prediction that it would see more traffic on its service. Yesterday, though, Xbox's senior executive finally said what's bad for the goose is bad for the gander."It's bad for the industry that this has happened to Sony," Dennis Durkin, the chief operating officer of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business, told IndustryGamers. "[W]e don't wish that upon anybody and you've seen we've been actually pretty quiet on the subject because we don't want to appear to even be looking to be taking advantage of somebody else's situation like that. That's just not in our DNA," he said. It's polite and professional, and just plain sensible PR, to not revel in your rivals' multibillion-dollar misfortunes. But what probably inform's Durkin's there-but-for-the-grace-of-God perspective is the fact that Xbox Live is shifting its attention to "the cloud," i.e. to servers that the bad guys can (and, likely, eventually will) attack. So while Durkin says Microsoft does "everything it can to be sure users' data is secure," he did say that "it is the consumer's responsibility also to do a number of things to try to protect their data," such as not using the same password across multiple sites, especially super-important ones. Twinbee confirmed for 3DS 3D Classics

Twinbee - a classic upscrolling shooter - will be the next game to arrive in the 3DS' 3D Classics range. Originally released in Japan in 1985 by Konami as a coin-op arcade title, it was later ported to the Famicom (Japan's NES) but never saw a release outside the Far East. The most unique aspect of the game is its item system - you shoot at clouds to reveal floating bells that change colour as you shoot them. You juggle them with your bullets, trying not to let them fall off the screen until they turn the desired colour before collecting them to receive a specific power-up - all while trying to dodge bullets and kill enemies (check the video below). Nintendo Japan has confirmed that the title will arrive on 3DS with new 3D effects on August 10, but will lack the two-player option featured in the original. It's also unclear if the game will come to western regions considering the original's Japan-only release. To be honest, we wouldn't be too bothered if it doesn't. We're hoping to see some better games come out of the 3D Classics range. And there's already an upscrolling shooter in there (Xevious). If it was the Super Nintendo sequel, Pop n' Twinbee, we'd be a lot more excited. That game was MINT. Mike Jackson

UK police arrest Anonymous, LulzSec suspe

British police arrested two men yesterday as part of a trans-Atlantic investigation into cyber attacks committed by hacking groups Anonymous and LulzSec. Scotland Yard said it picked up a 24-year-old and a 20-year-old from two separate UK addresses and seized a computer, Yahoo reports."The arrests relate to our enquiries into a series of serious computer intrusions and online denial-of-service attacks recently suffered by a number of multi-national companies, public institutions and government and law enforcement agencies in Great Britain and the United States," said detective inspector Mark Raymond from the Metropolitan Police's Central e-Crime Unit.Police also confirmed that a further two suspects were yesterday charged in relation to denial-of-service attacks carried out by Anonymous. They'll appear in court on September 7 alongside two others previously charged with the same offence, which carries a maximum sentence of ten years in prison.Anonymous was heavily linked to a hack attack on the PlayStation Network in April, which resulted in 77 million users' account details being compromised. Need For Speed The Run trailer reveals 91

Here's a new trailer revealing the new Porsche 911 Carrera S racing along mountain roads in Need For Speed The Run.According to EA's blurb, it's got around 500hp and 800 lbs of torque. That sounded ridiculous to us so we checked Porsche's official website, which says it's got 400hp and 325 lb.-ft.So since we're making shit up, EA, let's just say it has a jet engine and can get to 756mph in three seconds. And cook you egg on toast. You will only be seeing this car in your garage if you grab the Limited Edition version of the game. It joins the stunning Lamborghini Aventador and the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 as perks for your extra cash. It's out on November 17. Mike Jackson

Resistance 4 'could be made by another de

Resistance 1, 2 and 3 maker Insomniac Games can definitely see another studio making the fourth entry in the PS3 series. That's according to creative director Marcus Smith, who told Gaming Union the developer's "not currently slated to do Resistance 4".Asked how the franchise fits into the studio's future plans, he said: "We've got three different games with very different focuses. We're kind of going in a lot of different directions. Ted Price, Alex and Brian Hastings, the owners, have been doing this for a long time - something like 15 years of doing Sony exclusive games - and they're just interested in doing other things... I think we're thriving and branching out in a lot of different directions."We've done Resistance 3 and we're really into it and proud of it, but we're not currently slated to do a Resistance 4," he added. "We've got a lot of different places for the universe to go, so I could certainly see the series going to another developer. I'm sure Sony would want to find a high calibre developer to do a good offering. I don't think they'd hand the franchise over to somebody who is going to screw it up."Yesterday we posted a video interview with Insomniac's Brian Allgiar, creative director on new multiplatform IP Overstrike. EA 'relaxed' about heavy demand on Old Re

In light of record pre-orders for Star Wars: The Old Republic, EA has assured investors and analysts it has the capacity to ensure a smooth launch period for Star Wars: The Old Republic. EA Games Label boss Frank Gibeau said on an earnings call last night: "We've got a very aggressive plan to be able to scale multiple millions of users coming into the Star Wars franchise and service this fall. We're looking at pre-order campaigns and telemetry coming in from retail as well as online to get a sense of the overall base, and it's very strong."We're pretty relaxed about what we're going to be able to achieve there," he added (via Seeking Alpha). "We'll be able to scale up and light up new servers on a fairly quick basis. And we've got a plan to do that over the months following ship, and we have a lot of capacity built into that."So far EA has only confirmed a holiday 2011 launch for the BioWare MMO, and Gibeau said we're unlikely to get a solid release date for at least another month."As we get through the bulk of the summer, we're going to be ramping up our beta campaign. And by the time to get around September, we'll be in a position to be able to really call the ball and give you the hard ship date."

The Amazing Spider-Man Movie Getting A Ga

Activision and Beenox released Spider-Man: Edge of Time just 10 days ago. Meanwhile, we're just eight months away from the release of director Marc Webb's film reboot for Sony Pictures, The Amazing Spider-Man. Beenox, which also developed last year's Spidey game, Shattered Dimensions, is now busy working on a game based on the upcoming movie. The confirmation comes in the form of a poster at Activision's New York Comic Con booth, as spotted by IGN. The movie will be released on July 3, 2012 and it's reasonable to assume that the game might be coming at around the same time. NYCC has only just begun, and the poster's presence suggests that we'll be hearing more about it before the show ends on Sunday.Source: IGN

Force Unleashed dev making open-world RPG

A job ad tweeted by Clint Hocking, formerly of Ubisoft and currently creative director at LucasArts, has revealed the company is working on a new open-world RPG. The job listing doesn't give much away other than the genre of the game, although it asks for console development experience so a PlayStation and Xbox release is a safe bet.The last game to be released from LucasArts' game development team was Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2, which was met with less than stellar review scores.Hocking previously served as Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and Far Cry 2 creative director before leaving the company for LucasArts last April. Vita hailed 'easiest PlayStation platform

PlayStation Vita is the easiest ever Sony platform to developer for, reckons the man behind Sony Liverpool's WipEout 2048. Speaking in the latest issue of Edge - which is with subscribers now - game director Stuart Tilley claimed his team has been able to get the handheld racer up and running "a lot quicker" than on platforms its worked on previously, which includes PS3 and PSP."I think of all the PlayStations I've worked on, which is actually all of them, it's the easiest one to work with," he told the mag. "The guys have given us a really good set of tools, allowing us to get up and running a lot quicker than we have previously, which is really good. "We had a smaller team at the back end of last year that got working straight away on the game stuff rather than too much of the underlying tech, which allows us to really start getting the game in your hands as soon as possible."The news will likely be welcomed by developers that infamously struggled to get to grips with PlayStation 3's more challenging architecture at launch.Another hurdle removed for developers is the cost of Vita dev kits, which come in at a fraction of the price of the PSP's.For the full interview buy Edge online and have it delivered to your door and see the latest WipEout 2048 trailer and screenshots for more Vita goodness. SF X Tekken Capcom working on Vita featu

Capcom's Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono has said the developer is working on PS3 connectivity and other features that make use of the PlayStation Vita's hardware for the portable version of Street Fighter X Tekken. "First of all, it's always fun to work on new hardware and try new things....We're doing a lot of customization and tweaking to make sure it's as good as possible on PS Vita," he said in an interview with the US PS Blog. "The really cool thing about PS Vita, of course, is the wealth of new features: Wifi, 3G, GPS, the gyroscope, and touch panels on both sides," he went on. "There are all sorts of cool things that we can do with those. We want to take advantage of that and really encourage people to get out into the world with their PS Vita and play Street Fighter X Tekken. "And we're looking at ways to link to the PS3 version as well to get you into the habit of leading a double-life of Street Fighter X Tekken. When you're out of the house, you play it on PS Vita and then you come home, turn on your PS3 and keep going."Ono, a key driving force behind the recent resurgence in fighting games, has said he doesn't expect the genre to crash again through over saturation like it did in the 90s.

Dead Island 'Bloodbath Arena' DLC out thi

Deep Silver has confirmed that the first download pack for Dead Island will be released in late September. The DLC, titled 'Bloodbath Arena', lets players fight endless waves of zombies in four deadly new areas. It also contains a new gun, the 'Brain Wave Bomb', which sounds delicious. Actions performed in this mode will give you XP that can be carried over to your main campaign, which makes it the perfect place to grind up your stats should you need some extra help. If you got the Special Edition version of the game you'll get the DLC free. No price has been given for everyone else. Developer Techland has apologised to fans today, once again, after a gamer dug around in Dead Island's hidden data and found a line of code that names a 'feminist wh*re' skill for the female character Purna. This is the second time in one week the folks behind Dead Island have found themselves apologising on behalf of the zombie shooter, after early purchasers through Steam discovered they were accidentally served a disastrously buggy development version of the game. Maybe this will become a weekly thing like the PS Store updates.'This week's Dead Island apologies: Animal cruelty and hooker murder'. Mike Jackson

Cardboard Warfare 2 Video Cracks Me Up

Sometimes the best jokes are the simplest, like creating a full-on, high production value YouTube World War II epic using cardboard for all weapons. I'm not even sure why I like this so much, but it's amazing.Check out "Cardboard Warfare"... and note that the music is from Medal of Honor!

Yakuza Dead Souls Trademark Suggests Wes

Sega's zombified Yakuza game, Yakuza: Of the End, arrived in Japan on June 9 of this year. Fans of the series in other parts of the world have been waiting for some news of a global release, and it seems that they might soon have an answer.Sega picked up a trademark in Europe for Yakuza: Dead Souls (via CVG), which seems like a safe bet as a more English-speaking audience-friendly title for the zombie-infused Yakuza game. This is in no way confirmation that a Western Of the End release is coming, but it's a good start. The Yakuza series is a funny beast. Part-open world RPG, part-brawler, part-minigame fest, part-something completely unclassifiable, it is capable of hitting any number of gaming pleasure centers in the space of a single hour. Adding zombies to that mix seems like a recipe for awesome; here's hoping fans in the U.S. and Europe get to find out.Source: OHIM (search trademark number 010291482)

Halo Movie Rumors Resurface In Press Kit,

Let's all just calm down for a minute. A Halo movie has long been a dream for fans, one that's almost happened several times. The closest we got was a project that had Peter Jackson producing and District 9 helmer Neill Blomkamp directing. It was put to rest for a variety of reasons. Now there's information suggesting that a Halo movie -- from Steven Spielberg, no less -- is coming in 2012.Not bloody likely, I say.The word comes from a French language press release for the upcoming Halo: Cryptum novel (via CVG), which notes that a film adaptation of the popular series is set for 2012 with Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks leading the charge. This isn't the first time Spielberg's name has been attached to Halo, which I would guess is how it ends up being mentioned in the press release.Unfortunately for fans, Hollywood productions can't really be kept under wraps the way video games are. This is especially true for a blockbuster production, which Halo would surely be, not to mention one with a name like Spielberg's attached to it. That 2012 timeframe is the big red flag here; there's just no way we're at most slightly more than a year out from a Halo movie without having heard anything.Whoever wrote the press kit up was likely misinformed or simply working with inaccurate information. I've dropped DreamWorks a line just to be sure, but seriously folks: don't get your hopes up.Source: Halo.fr

EA PS Vita 'has a better chance than 3DS

PlayStation Vita has "a better chance" of success than Nintendo's troubled 3DS, reckons EA Labels president Frank Gibeau. Speaking to CVG in Cologne last week, the former EA Games boss predicted that Sony's combination of innovation, technology and a strong software line-up will give the platform holder a smoother experience than Nintendo, which was forced to introduce a 3DS price cut less than five months after launch."I think that part of the videogame business is tough right now because they have had some significant competition come in that was totally disruptive, and that was the smartphone," Gibeau said."I think [Sony has] got a shot because they have some really unique innovation in the control scheme, the technology and the screen. It's got a lot of social features now so that you can actually communicate with your friends and be social. "You can't ring them up by putting the device up to your ear but in general I think they've got most of the capabilities that you'd find in a smart phone, with some unique capabilities that make them stand out."The EA Labels president said Vita's software line-up will have the edge on Nintendo's handheld."I don't think they're quite in the same boat as the 3DS... the 3DS was a really interesting piece of technology but I think there was some confusion over it and the title slate was a little different," he said. "I think Vita has a better chance because it has a stronger title slate at launch. PSP's had a great run in Europe as a device, it seems to have reached a much larger audience here than it did in North America. So I think they've got a good shot. We're going to publish a few games on it and see how it develops."In the same interview, the EA Labels president told CVG the publisher is looking to re-imagine and bring back "a couple" of classic franchises. Blizzard defends Diablo 3 real-money auct

Blizzard has revealed that Diablo 3 will have a new auction house feature that will let player buy and sell items with real money. Blizzard executive VP Rob Pardo made the announcement at a recent presentation, explaining that the feature comes in reaction to the thriving black markets that saw people exchanging items for real cash with previous Diablo games. Instead of trying to stop real cash purchases, Diablo 3 embraces it, he explained. "People were going to do it anyway, and this way it's secure," he said, later defending the feature against the suggestion players could spend more time in the auction room than actually playing the game. "As long as players are having fun, whatever they're doing, I consider that a success," he said. Players can list anything from weapons, armour, gold or even characters themselves in an auction house and sell them to other players for real-world moolah. Players will be able to make a limited number of free listing per week, but otherwise Blizzard will charge a small fee and take a cut of the final sale amount. Blizzard also revealed that the game will require a constant online connection to be played.
